Flood Damage Can Be Easy to Miss

Flood-damaged vehicles can look clean on the outside while hiding serious problems underneath. Water damage can affect the engine, electrical system, interior components, safety features, and long-term reliability of the vehicle.

In this ABC 30 The Allman Report feature, Jay Grosman, CEO and Founder of iAutoAgent, explains what buyers should look for before purchasing a used vehicle that may have been exposed to flood damage.

A vehicle can look good during a quick walkaround or test drive and still have hidden flood damage that becomes expensive later.

What Buyers Should Watch For

  • Musty or mildew-like smells inside the vehicle
  • Water stains on seats, carpet, headliner, or door panels
  • Rust under seats, around seat tracks, or inside hidden metal areas
  • Moisture or condensation inside headlights or taillights
  • Electrical problems with windows, locks, screens, sensors, or lights
  • New carpet or upholstery that does not match the age of the vehicle
  • Vehicle history reports showing flood, salvage, or title concerns

Buyers should slow down, verify the vehicle history, inspect the vehicle carefully, and get help before making a purchase. A low price is not a good deal if the vehicle has hidden water damage.
